Itinerary
The tour begins early in the morning with departure from La Paz to the charming town of Copacabana, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. The journey of approximately three hours will take you through mountains and spectacular views of the lake, the highest navigable body of water in the world. Upon arriving in Copacabana, you will have time to stroll through its streets, visit the famous Sanctuary of the Virgin of Copacabana, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the town.
After a brief exploration of Copacabana, you will board a boat that will take you to Isla del Sol, one of the most iconic destinations on Lake Titicaca. The boat ride lasts about an hour and a half, during which you can admire the crystal-clear waters of the lake and the surrounding Andean mountains.
Upon reaching Isla del Sol, you will disembark on the southern part of the island at the Yumani port, where you will begin a hike through paths that will lead you to discover the archaeological remains of the Inca civilization. The first stop is the Inca Stairs, a set of ancient steps that lead to the Inca Fountain, a sacred spring attributed with healing properties. As you walk across the island, you will witness breathtaking landscapes, with agricultural terraces and panoramic views of the lake and mountains.
The tour will also take you to explore the Palace of Pilkokaina, a stone structure built by the Incas that served as a resting palace. Here, the guide will share stories about the island’s significance to the Incas, who believed that the Sun God and the first Inca emperor, Manco Cápac, were born in this sacred place.
After the hike and exploration of the southern part of the island, you will enjoy a typical lunch at a local restaurant with spectacular views of the lake, where you can taste fresh trout, one of the region’s traditional dishes.
After lunch, you will have free time to explore the island at your own pace, walk its trails, enjoy the tranquility and views, or simply relax on the beach. In the afternoon, you will board the boat back to Copacabana, where you will make one last stop to enjoy the town’s atmosphere and buy some local crafts.
