It’s a perfect opportunity for those seeking a close-to-nature experience, enjoying a moderate hike and exploring one of the most surprising ecosystems of the Chilean altiplano.

Itinerary

The tour begins with pickup at your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama early in the morning, the ideal time to take advantage of the cool temperatures and the golden light of dawn illuminating the desert. The journey to the Cactus Gorge will take us through breathtaking landscapes, while your guide provides an introduction to the geography and culture of the region.

Upon arriving at the gorge, we will begin our hike. The trail is of moderate difficulty and runs along the bed of a dry river, surrounded by giant Echinopsis atacamensis cacti, some of which reach over 10 meters in height. As we progress, your guide will explain about the native flora and fauna, as well as the geological history of the area, marked by ancient volcanic forces that shaped the gorge.

The hike continues between narrow canyons and imposing rock formations until we reach a natural viewpoint where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the valley and the surrounding mountains. This is a perfect place to take a break, capture photos, and absorb the tranquility of the environment.

After exploring the surroundings and enjoying the landscape, we will begin our descent back along the same trail, completing a total journey of approximately 3 hours. Upon finishing the hike, we will return to San Pedro de Atacama, arriving by noon with enough time to enjoy the rest of the day in the town or its surroundings.
