Altiplanicas Lagoon and Piedras Rojas ~ Full Day
The tour to the Altiplanic Lagoons and Red Stones in San Pedro de Atacama takes you to explore the stunning altiplano landscapes of the Miscanti and Miñiques lagoons, along with the unique red rock formation in the Red Stones sector. The journey offers spectacular views of volcanoes, mountains, lagoons, and rich Andean wildlife.
Itinerary
The day begins early with the pickup of travelers from their respective accommodations in San Pedro de Atacama. The first destination of the tour is the village of Socaire, famous for its Andean architecture and agricultural terraces, where a brief stop is made to enjoy a local breakfast and learn more about traditional culture.
From Socaire, the tour continues to the Altiplanic Lagoons of Miscanti and Miñiques, located over 4,000 meters above sea level. These lagoons, surrounded by the imposing volcanoes of the same name, are famous for their spectacular blue color and the landscape that surrounds them. Here, visitors can walk around the area, observe native wildlife such as vicuñas and flamingos, and marvel at the peace and serenity of the place.
Next, the tour proceeds to the Red Stones sector, one of the most striking geological formations in the region. The reddish rocks, a product of mineral oxidation, beautifully contrast with the turquoise waters of the Aguas Calientes Salt Flat. This spot offers an excellent opportunity for photos and to enjoy panoramic views.
After visiting the Red Stones, the tour makes a stop at the Atacama Salt Flat, specifically in the Los Flamencos National Reserve, where tourists can observe these birds in their natural habitat. Before returning to San Pedro, there is a final stop in the village of Toconao, known for its volcanic stone constructions. Finally, the tour concludes with the return to the city in the afternoon.
