Itinerary
The tour begins in the morning with pickup from your accommodation in Uyuni, where you will meet your guide and group to start the journey to Salar de Uyuni. Along the way, the guide will provide information about the history, geology, and culture of the region, preparing you for the adventure that is about to begin.
The first stop of the tour is the Train Cemetery, a historic site where the old locomotives that once powered Bolivia’s mining industry are located. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore the train cars and take photos in an environment that combines history and desert landscapes.
Next, you will head to the village of Colchani, where salt extraction and processing take place. Here, you can observe how locals work in the salt harvest and also have the chance to purchase crafts made from salt and other typical products from the region.
The next destination is the impressive Salar de Uyuni. As you enter this vast salt desert, the infinite whiteness of the salty ground will leave you speechless. During the rainy season, the salt flat becomes a gigantic mirror that reflects the sky, creating a magical view of infinite horizons. During the dry season, the surface cracks into perfect hexagons, forming a surreal landscape.
Continuing the tour, you will arrive at Isla Incahuasi, a rocky formation that rises in the middle of the salt flat and is populated by enormous giant cacti that grow up to 10 meters tall. From the top of the island, you will enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the salt flat that stretches as far as the eye can see. After a walk on the island, a typical lunch will be offered in this incredible natural setting.
After lunch, the tour will take you to explore more of the salt flat, where you will have free time to take the famous perspective photos that play with dimensions in this flat and endless landscape. Your creativity and the endless desert will allow you to capture unique images.
In the afternoon, you will begin the return to Uyuni, but before that, you will make one last stop at a salt hotel, where you can see how these accommodations are completely built with salt blocks, from the walls to the furniture. This is another of the curious attractions offered by the salt flat.
